Canyon            
 
We watch the post-vacation video
of captains rafting rapids set to music
on a route divinely carved.

Our heroes ran the river and returned
to tell their time beneath the heavens,
day and night inset with glory’s cosmic stones. 

Still more esteemed, the joyful shining  
of these men made not of mineral or rock
but bone and flesh: this generation 

streaming down the mighty gorge--
these current vessels of the breath of God.
